Costume Shop Manager - Princeton University Lewis Center for the Arts
The Lewis Center for the Arts (LCA) at Princeton University is seeking a Costume Shop Manager. The LCA is a home for artists, educators, staff, scholars, students, audiences and those who embrace, embody, and nurture an expansive vision of art. We believe that art as a practice generates, significantly clarifies, and shares human experience and should not be a matter of luxury and privilege. We are looking for a creative, collaborative person with experience in all aspects of costume design and construction to join our production staff. Someone to promote an inclusive and safe work environment; to foster a culture of community, equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism among staff and guest artists as well fostering a dynamic and creative shop environment.
-Hire and supervise shop staff, casual hires and student workers;
-Work closely with students from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels on the design and build process;
-Work closely with faculty and guest artists on all theater and dance productions from initial design meetings to the final performance;
-Foster a culture of safety and ensure a safe work environment for all.
-Maintain and track all costume budgets;
-Maintain Costume Shop stock;
-Build costume pieces, complete costume craft projects and produce accessories as needed.
-BA or BFA in Theater or similar professional experience
-5-7 years experience
-Broad working knowledge of all aspects of costume design and production from initial design to final performance.
-A solid background in technical theater - either design or costume construction.
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills, positive attitude, team player, collaboration skills, problem solving skills and a great sense of humor.
-Self-motivated, organized and detail oriented.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Prime, and Concur. Ability to work a schedule that varies from week to week and includes nights and weekends on a regular basis.
-Valid driver’s license, must be able to drive a University vehicle.
-Working knowledge of some additional costuming skills preferred, such as stage makeup, hat making, crafts, painting and dyeing.
