The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey seeks a Master Electrician/Sound Engineer. The position is full-time, year-round and operates under the supervision of the Director of Production and Facilities. This position will oversee all day-to-day details of lighting and sound departments, manage a full-time crew of two, hire and supervise additional crew as needed, and supervise and teach any interns in the lighting and sound departments. The Master Electrician/Sound Engineer is expected to manage budgets and paperwork for both departments, communicate with designers, vendors, and rental houses, create and maintain show paperwork, maintain and upgrade inventory and storage as necessary, and attend all meetings, technical rehearsals, and work calls. Design opportunities also exist for qualified applicants. Qualifications are a BA/BFA in Technical Theatre and 2 years professional experience, ideally with some previous supervisory experience. Candidates need the ability to effectively manage crews on multiple simultaneous projects and understand how to effectively work with other departments on a tight schedule. Candidates must have experience with ETC equipment, including Eos family consoles, troubleshooting conventional and intelligent lighting, and safely wiring practicals. Candidates must also be comfortable with audio recording and playback equipment, including Yamaha digital consoles, QLab, and modern digital multi-track software. Advanced skills in Vectorworks and Lightwright and basic skills with MS Office programs are needed. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required, and the ability to drive up to a 26’ box truck is highly desired.
