Behind the Scenes Feature 5: Adele Sammarco
This week, we caught up with New Jersey Repertory Company's Director of Marketing & Communication, Adele Sammarco. Here's what she had to say.
1. Tell us about yourself and how you got into your line of work?
I am a former New York City television news Reporter who filed thousands of stories for NY1 as an original video journalist. As a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, I have been working in journalism for more than two decades and am a huge supporter of the arts and member of the Screen Actors Guild.
2. What/who was your main inspiration for pursuing a career in the arts?
Growing up, my mother always encouraged me to write as a way to express myself. My mom has been my inspiration since I was a little girl. The day I graduated from NYU, she enrolled in college for the first time at age 50 and went on to become a New York City School Teacher with a masters degree in English Literature.
3. What advice do you have for someone just starting out in the field?
My advice is to stay true to yourself and know who you are. There will always be naysayers and critics. Do what you do best and don't look back.
4. Do you have any pre-show rituals? We'd love to hear!
Before any show, I get the word out to all my media contacts about what angles to look out for when putting together a story, perhaps an interesting tidbit about the performer(s) or what town they grew up in or high school they may have graduated from just to relay the 'human-side' of what an audience is about to see.
5. Got a favorite quote? Why?
"The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before." - Albert Einstein
