New Jersey Theatres Give Back
In addition to giving the gift of theatre this season with the many spectacular holiday productions, some of our theatres are participating in donation initiatives. Here’s a quick overview of their efforts and how you can participate:
East Lynne Theater Company; Cape May
East Lynne Theater Company is accepting nonperishable items for the Cape May Food Closet during the run of their holiday production, “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus” (through December 12, 2015).
East Lynne will collect the following items: spaghetti, tomato sauce, bar soap, canned veggies, and canned protein.
Please drop off items at The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes Street, where the company is in residence.
George Street Playhouse; New Brunswick
From November 1st thru December 18th, George Street Playhouse, along with local businesses of New Brunswick, will participate in a Holiday Food and Clothing Drive. The donations will go to the local soup kitchen, Elijah's Promise, and the Salvation Army Corp of New Brunswick.
George Street Playhouse will have a green bin on display in their lobby (9 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick) to collect:
• Non-perishable food items
• Adult winter accessories (socks, hats, gloves)
• Hygienic items (toothpaste, deodorant, and lotion)
McCarter Theatre Center; Princeton
At the end of each performance of A Christmas Carol, audience members are asked to contribute donations in support of a human needs organization in the Princeton area.
This year’s audience contributions will support the work of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
If you are interested in donating to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, please contact them directly at 609-695-5456, and donate on behalf of McCarter Theatre Center.
In December of 2014, McCarter supported HomeFront, an organization that seeks to end homelessness in Mercer County. Audience contributions totaled $58,123, which is sufficient enough to assist families through 2017.
Paper Mill Playhouse; Millburn
Paper Mill Playhouse will be a collection point for this year’s Jersey Cares Coat Drive. Over the years Jersey Cares has collected, sorted and distributed more than 500,000 winter coats to New Jersey residents. The donated winter coats benefit at-risk men, women, children, and infants in our area.
Each year, Paper Mill Playhouse gladly participates in this worthy cause and will be collecting gently used winter coats from November 25, 2015 through January 3, 2016. Collection of coats will take place in the lobby at Paper Mill Playhouse, 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn.

Two River Theater; Red Bank
From December 13 – 24, Two River Theater will promote 12 Days of Gifting. Each day a new gifting idea will be promoted on their Facebook page. Gifting ideas will also live here all month long and emailed to Two River patrons. In addition, anyone who buys a subscription in the month of December will be entered to win two house tickets to the hit Broadway musical, Hamilton.
All of our theatres are in the midst of their end-of-the year appeals, so please consider donating to one of our NJ professional member theatres. Visit our theatre page to find a professional theatre to support, or contribute to all the professional theatres by donating to the Alliance!
