Premiere Stages is proud to announce Kean University student Lucien Edme (Class of ‘21) is the winner of the Bauer Boucher Playwriting Student Award.
In Councilman by Lucien Edme, Wesley Grande is a new kid at St. Thomas Public School, a middle school full of power-hungry tyrants in the making, who has planned to run for class president. Running with his best friend, Wesley plans to “bring power back to the underdog.” Only thing that stands in his way is the most popular girl in school running against him who urges him to “enlist an army.” In order to win the presidency, he brings in a precocious, “soon-to-be mogul” sixth grader as a campaign manager to help out. Wesley soon has to decide what matters more to him: Power or Respect.
The Bauer Boucher Award winners virtual readings are free and will be performed via Zoom. A short Q&A with the playwrights will follow each reading.
