While our Main Stage and our Outdoor Stage shows for 2020 are all having to move to 2021, we are so excited to announce our new Back Yard Stage, which will debut July 30th! From that date through August 9th, we will be producing a double-bill offering called Crazy Love! It will feature two separate productions that will alternate nights, so if you are up for it, you can see two plays, live on stage (not Zoom!) with real, living actors; wonderful, festive classic fare; and all under the twilight sky of late summer on our Great Lawn, located behind our Kean Theatre Factory in Florham Park. And if you are really anxious to soak up as much theatre as possible, you can see one show at 4:30 on a Sunday and then the other one a few hours later at 7:00. Pack a picnic dinner to enjoy between the two shows!
Our Shrewd Mechanicals company of eight actors will perform both shows. Verily, Madly Thine is a one-hour-ish collage of mostly Shakespeare scenes that depict how crazy people get when they are in love, and this show will be directed by AC Horton, who is not only one of our key staff members, but one of our most promising young directors. AC compiled this piece for last year’s Shrewd Mechanicals tour, and for this engagement, she will expand the piece slightly for your viewing pleasure. So, for all of you who are yearning for some Shakespeare, come on out to our Back Yard Stage in August!
Bonnie Monte will be directing the second offering — a double-bill of Molière’s delightful, madcap farce, The Love Doctor, along with a short little masterpiece by Edna St. Vincent Millay called Aria Da Capo. This double-bill will also last a little over an hour, and again, expect the lunacy of those “afflicted” by the love-bug!
