New Jersey Ballet Company is seeking a Wardrobe Manager to oversee costume shop for the company’s 2018-2019 season. We have a small staff, and this is a hands-on position; a strong costume technician is required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Coordinate and schedule fittings and production load-ins and load-outs, and wardrobe volunteers. • Care, laundering, and maintenance of costumes, wigs, costume accessories. • Assist dancer at performances with dressing and quick changes. • Maintain inventory of costumes, supplies, fabrics, etc. and coordinate loans and rentals. • Actively participate in the cutting, draping, stitching, pulling, fitting and strike of costume elements. • Manage costume shop equipment, repairs, and maintenance. • Supplemental costume design work may also be offered, but is not guaranteed. • Attend production and planning meetings as needed. • Assist with New Jersey School of Ballet Student events and special events as needed.
Qualifications: • Ability to work independently and unsupervised. • A minimum of 2-3 years costume shop experience preferred. • Experience with draping, cutting, stitching, and crafts. • Sensitivity to the needs of dancers, staff, designers, and guest artists, and a proven ability to work well with others. • Car required.
Duration & Compensation: • Position to begin as soon the beginning of October. 40 hours/week, compensation negotiable. • Position will require evening and weekend hours; hours dictated by New Jersey Ballet Company. • Partial health benefits available. • Opportunity for outside work during less busy times of the year. Release time for summer gigs (mid -June to mid-September is possible). • Trip expenses and per diem provided when trip is outside of a 50 mile radius of Livingston, NJ.
