What Does New Jersey Theatre Alliance Do?
We NURTURE the professional theatre community in New Jersey.
We build lasting partnerships between theatres and community organizations;
Create networking opportunities for theatre staff throughout the state; and
Celebrate the achievements of the field through the annual Curtain Call Event and the Excellence in Cultural Access Awards
We INTRODUCE new audiences to our member theatres.
We promote our theatres’ programs and achievements to tens of thousands of people through digital media, email marketing, and our website; and
Help members reach thousands of new households through Show-Score New Jersey
We PRODUCE the state’s largest theatre festival: The Stages Festival.
We organize an average of 100 free or deeply discounted theatre events annually, engaging over 220,000 people since the festival’s inception
We CONNECT artists to our member theatres.
We offer hundreds of actors the chance to be seen by New Jersey theatres at the Annual Combined Auditions; and
Create connections between playwrights, theatres, and community organizations through NJPAC Stage Exchange and Healing Voices: Caregivers’ Stories on Stage
We LEAD the charge in making New Jersey arts accessible to people with disabilities.
In partnership with New Jersey State Council on the arts, we spearhead The Cultural Access Network Project (CAN), an award-winning national model for increasing arts access since 1992;
Subsidize sign-interpreted, open captioning, sensory-friendly, and audio-described performances with mini-grants to member theatres; and
Assist the state’s theatres and the cultural community in creating, updating, and implementing their ADA plans
We BUILD theatres’ organizational capacity through training and consulting.
We provide theatres with board, fundraising, arts education, and strategic planning consulting;
Convene peer roundtables and professional development opportunities for theatre staff in the areas of education, access, marketing, and development; and
Support our member theatres in the essential work of equity, diversity, and inclusion on their stages and in their organizations
We PROVIDE theatres with technical support and low-interest loans.
We operate a technical equipment library where theatres can borrow audio, visual, accessibility, photo, video, computing, and presentation equipment;
Provide members with a shared server to help them keep IT expenses low; and
Facilitate a low-interest loan fund program to assist member theatres with cash flow challenges or emergency needs
We ADVOCATE for professional theatre in New Jersey.
We help government representatives understand the profound impact of New Jersey professional theatre on the quality of life and the economy of the state; and
Collaborate with ArtPride NJ and other organizations to ensure the arts remain a funding priority on the local, state, and national level
