Access Coordinator (Part-Time, Remote)

Position Description

This position joins a seven member team of mission-driven individuals dedicated to promoting and strengthening professional theatre in New Jersey and the region. This is a part-time, remote administrative support position responsible for supporting and coordinating all access services for the New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s public virtual and in-person events.  In addition, this person works in partnership with the Alliance’s Executive Director in the coordination of the Cultural Access Network Project, a resource to the state’s cultural community as they make their programs and facilities accessible to people with disabilities and older adults.  The Cultural Access Network (CAN), a program of New Jersey Theatre Alliance and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, offers virtual and education opportunities, coordinates the review of ADA Plans (a requirement for state arts funding), produces an awards program, maintains resources on the Alliance’s website, maintains a Calendar of accessible events occurring at arts organizations, and offers accessibility awareness training to staff and board members of arts organizations.

The work of the Cultural Access Network Project is guided by an 18-member advisory committee made up of individuals with disabilities, individuals who work for organizations serving people with disabilities, and arts colleagues.  The committee meets virtually an average of five times per year.

This is a 10-12 hour per week position, paid at $25/hour. Days and times of work are negotiable and flexible depending on scheduled events and meetings.

Responsibilities

Administration

  • Assist the Manager of Digital Communications and Marketing in maintaining the accessibility section of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance website;
  • Coordinate meetings and assist in agenda preparation for meetings with the CAN Committee;
  • Attend virtual CAN meetings;
  • Prepare and distribute minutes of CAN meetings;
  • Coordinate teams and administer the ADA Plan review process;  
  • Maintain email distribution list for CAN announcements;
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the ADA Plan Portal for organizations and ADA Plan Evaluators.


Program Support for the Field

  • In collaboration with the Alliance’s Manager of Digital Communications and Marketing, assist the field in uploading accessible program information onto the Cultural Access Calendar section of website;
  •  Answer phone and email inquiries from the field regarding cultural access (i.e. resources, vendors, marketing, ADA planning);
  • Assist in the design and implementation of peer-to-peer roundtables, as well as training and service programs for the field (i.e. the creation of ADA plans, accessibility training, etc.);
  • Schedule CAN committee members, arts colleagues and outside speakers and volunteers for roundtables and training sessions;
  • Arrange requested patron accommodations for meetings and events (i.e. sign-interpreters, open captioning); 
  • Assist in the coordination and design of  the annual Excellence in Cultural Access Awards event held at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey 


Support Services to the Public

  • Assist in building awareness and education of the Cultural Access Calendar of the website through networking and speaking engagements with a variety of organizations;
  • Answer phone and email inquiries from the public regarding cultural access programs, services and opportunities


External Relations/Leadership

    • Join the Executive Director for state, regional and national conferences and workshops including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Leadership Exchange for Arts Disability (LEAD) conference.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-directed work style with excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Interest in and commitment to our mission of serving professional theatres 
  • Interest in and commitment to our work of making the arts and culture field more accessible, anti-racist, and equitable.
  • Basic knowledge of and understanding of the ADA
  • Experience in the arts and disability access a plus
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Gmail, Google calendars, Doodle, and Zoom

Additional Information

  • New Jersey Theatre Alliance operates remotely with a seven-member team. The person in this position will work remotely with some travel for occasional in-person meetings and events. Mileage is reimbursed; a percentage of cell phone and home internet will be reimbursed for work at home; computer and printer will be provided if needed.
